My Favorite Things from Christmas 2010

Even though Christmas seems like a distant memory, I'm still loving some of the gifts that I received. Here are my favorite new obsessions from Christmas 2010:

Apple TV

Apple TV is in one word, AMAZING! With a very small footprint, it provides the ability to stream movie rentals from iTunes and Netflix, directly to your tv! Previously, I'd have to watch on my laptop or iphone. But now, I'm streaming HD movies directly to my nice, big flat screen! You can also access YouTube, Podcasts, MobileMe, Flickr, as well your entire iTunes music library. The best part was how easy it was to set up! Seriously, in 5 minutes flat I was up and running!

Le Mer Collections Watch

Although I put this watch prominently on my list, I sort of knew that my family wouldn't go to the trouble to order it. So, this was actually a Christmas present to myself. :) Valerie of Red Vines for Breakfast owns this watch, and ever since drooling over her's in person, I knew that I had to have one . Now I do!

Sabon NYC - Rose Tea

Everytime I travel to NYC, I always make a point to stop in Sabon. Upon entering the boutique, you're always asked, "have you been here before?" I usually ~~play dumb~~ say no, and then I'm escorted to a round sink where I can try out their various scrubs, lotions and potions. I'm always amazed at how moisturized my skin feels afterward, and how long that moisturization lasts! But each trip I come home empty handed, due to the lack of space in my luggage. I leave the store telling myself that I'll just order it, but I never do...until now! (Yes, another present to myself) I'm completely obsessed with the Rose Tea scent of the scrub and body lotion, and this combo came just in time to treat my dry Winter skin!

Steven by Steve Madden Sequin Box Clutch

This was a present from my Dad. Even though this glitzy number was on my Christmas list, apparently I had forgotten to note which color I'd like, and there were several to choose from! My Dad took a guess, and he guessed right! This was exactly the bag that I had been wanting, to complete my NYE ensemble! It was perfect!

Kate Spade Lady Marmalade Small Bracelet

Speaking of NYE, this bracelet alone made my outfit feel much more fancy! It's so sparkly, yet I can easily pair it with my Michael Kors watch to make it more casual. This picture doesn't do it justice!

American Eagle Solid Leggings

These are my new favorite leggings! After throwing out several pairs of Massimo's that were falling apart at the seams, I was in desperate need of some replacements! One day I was in a hurry and American Eagle was close, so I ran in an grabbed a pair of their black leggings. So far, I've been really impressed by the quality as they seem to hold up really well. I was so happy that my Mom bought me two more pairs! I have them in black, but they're no longer available online (only Army Green). If you're lucky enough, you might find them in stores. Sadly, my local stores are all out of my size. :(

Cookie Dough Scoop

This was suppose to be in my stocking, but I asked Santa to make an exception and bring it a little early. ;) (Especially since I was to be in full baking mode the week of Christmas) A cookie dough scoop is the trick to maintaining that uniform size, resulting in a professional looking cookie. This really came in handy for my chocolate crinkle cookies that I make every year!

A Quiet { One }

Sometimes silence is golden, and sometimes it's just silent, but in my case it was exactly what I needed. I can't believe that it's been over a month since I've posted anything! I apologize for abandoning you all, but I desperately needed a break! My own survival depended on it! I've been running, running, running all year long and I guess I had just run out of steam. The first week or two I was in recovery mode, and then the next two I was all wrapped up in my holiday to-do list (which seems to get longer every year!), meanwhile maintaining my work schedule. (not complaining, just explaining) Unfortunately, my break happened right before Christmas, when there's so much inspiration around for blog posts! But, I'm sure you've all had plenty of blogs to read/write that kept you in the Christmas spirit. Hopefully, you all had a great holiday! Mine was an amazing time spent with the people that I love, and some much needed R & R. It was perfect! Now that Christmas is behind us, and we've welcomed in another new year, it's time the silence was broken. I suppose it's appropriate to get back to blogging, on Chasing Beauty's one year blogiversary! Typically for blog anniversaries, there's some sort of giveaway, or even a whole week long celebration. I've even been known to celebrate each month, like a high school relationship! Since I'm just coming back, I've decided to forgo the usual fanfare, for a small, quiet celebration. For me, it's an accomplishment that this post actually happened! It would've been all too easy to continue in my silence, but the truth is, I'm still passionate about blogging! My only problem now, is that I have much less time to blog than when I began. I'm still trying to sort out a posting schedule that is both realistic and consistent, with consistent being the key word! It's always difficult getting started after a long break, so bear with me as I get back into the swing of things. For those of you that are still reading, and haven't given up on this little blog (and me), THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart! You're the reason I've decided to continue, and I'm SO looking forward to catching up with all of you!

Autumn in New York

Anytime I'm in Manhattan, I almost always make a beeline to Central Park the second I arrive. My most recent trip was no exception. You'd think first on the agenda would be shopping, theater, or grabbing a slice of real NY pizza! For me, all of that can wait until I've had my walk through the park. I was especially excited to take in all of the Fall colors! Some of the locations that I visited, you'll remember from my last stroll through the park. Only this time, the trees were drenched in the golden glow of Autumn, making everything look new again.

I really wanted to play in the leaves, but since I was by myself I settled for a self portrait.

As I walked through The Mall, I came across a cool band called The Dirty Urchins. Apparently they play in public spaces all over the city, and just happened to be in the middle of a set as I was passing by.

I actually would've bought one of their cd's, except I had zero cash. They weren't exactly set up to take credit cards.

As I headed toward the fountain, I couldn't help but notice the leaves! We don't get these colors in LA!

The last time I was here, the water had been drained, and the pond was icy.

It was nice to see the water flowing and paddle boats still in the pond. Though I'm sure it won't be long before the Boathouse closes, and the fountain, once again is drained for the Winter.

Happy Birthday to Me

My birthday was actually last Wednesday, but I feel like the festivities started two weeks ago while I was in NY! I had planned to shop for my bday shoes while in the big city, but for the first time ever, I didn't shop! ( I know, the horror!) Between work and some serious night life (more on that later), I just ran out of time. The one day I had planned to hit the stores, it was rainy and windy. Not exactly ideal shopping weather. So, I came home with nothing but a few "I heart NY" t-shirts for my nephews. I had the most amazing trip to NYC, so no complaints here, but I DID have to make up for my lack of shopping when I returned to LA!

The morning of my birthday, I had one client and then it was off to the Christian Louboutin boutique to search for the perfect pair of heels.

Once inside, I was mesmerized by all of the gorgeous shoes, each with the ubiquitous red lacquered sole. Ahhhh...I imagine this it what Heaven is like! The selection was overwhelming! Thankfully, I knew exactly what I wanted, and had the sweetest SA a girl could ask for! (We're now Facebook friends!) The second I told him that I was buying a bday present for myself, he offered me a glass of champagne, some Paulette macarons, and literally brought me every black shoe in the store to try! Seriously, Heaven!

I completely took over the entire second floor, with shoe boxes and black peep toes everywhere! After trying several different styles, the perfect pair for me was the Hyper Prive. While I loved the simplicity of the all black Very Prive, the extra platform of the HP made them SO much more comfortable!

As soon as I got home, I did a proper photo shoot with my new birthday shoes, which also happen to be my very first pair of Louboutins!

I didn't really expect to take a break from the blog, but with SO much going on, it was the one thing that had to give. Ten Month Anniversary

Chasing Beauty is Ten Months old today!

I almost forgot that today was my ten month blogiversary! I know I'm suppose to be in NY on a work trip, but I'm seriously having the most amazing time! I can't think of any city I'd rather be in right now to celebrate this little milestone, and kick off my birthday month!

Packing for NYC is never easy for me. I always want to take tons of outfits, with plenty of accessorizing options, and then I end up wearing the same four things everyday. It's ridiculous! So this trip, I decided to be honest with myself and just bring essentials. I'm proud to say that I brought everything I needed for a week, including makeup supplies for my client, in one carry on suitcase! (Well, one carry-on suitcase and an additional large tote bag)

With the addition of two pairs of boots (one of which I wore on the plane), a trench coat (also worn on the plane), and a leather jacket, I managed to pack perfectly for once! The only thing I didn't need to bring, but couldn't possibly leave at home, were my new Miu Miu's! I know I had talked about them being in the running for the big b-day purchase, but I've decided to hunt down those Louboutin's.

Let's call the Miu Miu's my Ten Month blogiversary shoes! ;) (Anyway I can justify two extravagant shoe purchases!)

Halloween Time

If you follow my twitter, then you already know that I didn't get to do anything Halloween-y this past weekend. Instead of costume parties and trick-or-treating with my nephews, I was doing laundry, packing and catching the red-eye. But, don't feel too sorry for me...I'm in NYC!!! As excited as I am to be in the city that I love, it was a little sad missing all of the festivities. I didn't even realize how much it bothered me, until I was sitting on the tarmac getting ready to take off. Fortunately, I had a day off last week and took full advantage by doing one of my favorite Halloween activities...Disneyland!!! With pumpkin spice lattes in tow, my friend and I hit all of the attractions that get revised just for the holiday season.

Main Street was extra special, all decked out in fall colors, with a giant Mickey shaped pumpkin.

Whenever I need a little dose of the Magic Kingdom, I can always count on my friend Tree, to roam the park with me.

I love when the Haunted Mansion turns into The Nightmare Before Christmas!

The past couple of years there's been a freaky ghost that follows you through Space Mountain! For some reason, this added element actually makes the ride seem faster!

Throughout the Halloween season, all of the characters dress up in costumes. So cute!

I usually instigate a few more cheesy pictures before the day is over.

Pumpkin Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Frosting

After making these, I was reminded just how much I love baking. So, on a perfectly cold and rainy day off, I decided to get back in the kitchen. With Halloween just days away, I've been loading up on pumpkin everything to celebrate, but it doesn't seem like Fall until I've made pumpkin cupcakes! The recipe is originally from 125 Best Cupcake recipes by Julie Hasson, which has become my go-to resource for just about every cupcake imaginable. The only thing I've done to modify the recipe is, I've left out the cream sherry. (not necessary in my opinion)

For the Brown Sugar frosting, I used this recipe:

2 cups light brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup half & half

2 2/3 cups sifted confectioner's sugar

In a heavy saucepan combine brown sugar, butter, and half & half. Cook and stir over medium heat to a full boil; Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Whisk in confectioner's sugar until smooth. Let cool 10 to 15 minutes to dip cupcakes (my preferred frosting method for a smooth texture- unfortunately I didn't get pictures of this), or 20 to 30 minutes for spreading consistency. Whisk occasionally to keep the frosting from hardening.

Song of the Day: Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy

Glee just keeps getting better and better this season! One of my favorite episodes so far has to be "Duets," in which had Finn and Rachel decide to throw the competition, so that new guy Sam wins (so that he'll stay in glee). The ending was so sweet, when Rachel chose to sing an additional duet with Kurt, not because she had to, but because she wanted to. Get ready for a singing master class people...this one is flawless!

The second I saw the two of them sitting in the stools... Kurt wearing a suit that shimmers, and Rachel in her sailor shirt, it reminded me of something I'd seen before. Maybe you've never seen the original, and in that case totally missed the reference to the amazing Judy Garland, and living legend herself, Barbra Streisand. Here is their classic performance of the same song, from the Judy Garland Show circa 1963. Notice the similarities?

As much as Barbra Streisand's music has been featured on Glee lately, don't you think it would be amazing for her to guest star?

Christian Louboutin Hyper Prive in Satin

I'm not really a fan of getting older, but since my birthday is just three weeks away, I guess there's not much I can do about it. To help soften the blow, I was thinking that an extravagant shoe purchase might be in order!

I've wanted a pair of Louboutin's for a really long time, but I'm pretty practical when it comes to my shoes. I don't have a problem spending good money on the ones that I'll live in, however, when it comes to heels it's hard justifying the price when they'll spend more time in my closet than on my feet. Needless to say, I'm lacking in the pretty and completely impractical department. So, I've decided that my birthday present to myself is going to be a total splurge! The only question now, is which pair?

Christian Louboutin Hyper Prive heels have always been at the top of my wish list, and now may be impossible to track down. I can't find them anywhere online! Has this style has been discontinued? The Very Prive is so similar (smaller platform), and I'm sure they would satisfy my urge for some Loubie's. ;)

Now I'm Really Twirling

I mentioned here, that I've been completely taken with Twirl. So, as quickly as my sample ran out, I marched myself into the nearest Kate Spade store to purchase a real bottle. Along with my new favorite scent, a couple of other things made it into my bag! :D

First of all, I'm dying for the pink and red packaging! I know I've said before, that pink and red is my favorite color combo, but add gold to the mix and I'm extra happy! I couldn't wait to give myself a little spritz, and upon opening the box, I saw this.

So fun!

I bought the smaller size because I normally don't wear a lot of fragrance, but now wish I would've gone big! I love it that much!

Something happened to me this year, as I've become increasingly addicted to cocktail rings. Once I laid eyes on this little pretty, there was no way that I was leaving it behind!

I couldn't escape the store without trying on "the perfect red" lipstick, and to see if it truly was perfect. And, guess what...it was!

The retro gold case makes putting on lipstick so much more glamorous! I can't wait to pull this out of my vintage black clutch!

Kate Spade got it right, with the exact blue/orange ratio that meets in the middle. This "perfect red" is universally flattering on every skin tone!

If you're at all apprehensive about wearing red lipstick, this is the one to try!

Apple Cinnamon Muffins

I get so envious of you blogger's that have the time to bake. It kills me, because baking is one of my favorite things to do, yet I never have time to do it! So, last week when I had an afternoon off, it was time to dust off the Kitchen-Aid. Only one problem...since I've been so busy with work, I haven't stayed on top of stocking my pantry. It really was in a sad state. So, rather than running to the store, I went with this recipe.

Now before you judge, I'm actually a very proficient baker. In fact, when I first got my Kitchen Aid mixer, I was baking up all sorts of confections, at least once a week! But I'm a little out of practice, and rather than getting all complicated, I thought I'd make something simple. Mostly, I wanted the house to smell like Fall!

Instead of baking a loaf, I decided to use my muffin pan. The one thing I've learned from baking lots of cupcakes is, that you must use an ice cream scoop to measure your batter. This will ensure uniform cupcakes/muffins.

I decided at the last minute to add a streusel topping.

Not bad for a mix, and the streusel was a super yummy addition! Aside from indulging in my home baked muffins, I loved that the apple cinnamon scent lingered in the house for days.

Riviera Palm Springs

A couple of weeks ago, it was feeling like Summer in LA. Then it turned to Fall for about a week, including the first rain of the season (unheard of in early Oct.), and now we're back to Summer! This multiple personality thing, LA has going on, is making my head spin! And, making me want to head back to Palm Springs where the temperature is fairly predictable...hot! I was lucky enough to spend a relaxing weekend in the desert, during our first Summer stint, and the weather was perfect! 104 degrees for Palm Springs is ideal for hanging in the pool all day with a cocktail in hand, and that's exactly what I did!

Rather than staying at one of the hots spots in PS, I chose to stay at the Riviera Resort & Spa where I didn't need to leave the property. I had stayed at the Riviera years ago, but this was before they underwent a massive renovation. I was so impressed with what they've done with the place! The new decor reflects that Old Hollywood glamour, that made the "Riv" popular, back when "old blue eyes' vacationed here.

There were the most amazing chandeliers throughout this hotel!

They have a great restaurant at the resort, where I had the most amazing breakfast, with the BEST pancake EVER! I'm not sure if it was the actual pancake or the maple syrup, but I literally dream about it now!

I loved that it wasn't enormous, and wasn't a stack. Just one, normal sized, PHENOMENAL pancake! So Yummy!

The pool area was gorgeous, and loungy, complete with poolside bar, cabanas, and fire pits for after dark.

Here's the pool in full swing! It's funny how when you first get to the pool you don't know anyone, and by the end of the day (and several cocktails later), you've made friends!

Gone are the days of meeting guys in Palm Springs. Instead, 3 girls having a mini break in the desert, met 3 other girls doing the same! We met up for late night cocktails by the pool, and have now become Facebook friends, and even bloggy friends!

Saturday was the big poolside day, but Sunday was all spa-ahhh!

This is where I got my very expensive mani-pedi. Seriously, my nails should have been painted in 24k gold! My manicurist was sweet though, a good painter, and spoke English! ;)

The spa was gorgeous, and had this incredible lounge area to relax in while waiting for your next treatment. I couldn't really get the lighting right in my pics.

I found a better one online, and this really is what it looked like!

The facial and massage I had, were fantastic, but I could've been just as happy spending the entire day in this room! Next time I'll make sure that I allow for more R & R here.

And, hopefully next time will come soon!

Song of the Day: Cee Lo Green - Forget You

This is not the post I had planned for today, but Blogger is not cooperating. So instead, I decided to post my latest song obsession. There is an explicit version, which just about expresses how I feel about the photo uploader right now, but this is the clean one. Still gets the point across. :) And on a side note, the location where they shot the video is The Pink Motel. Just a few miles north of Burbank, it's become a hot spot for productions looking for that retro vibe. I've shot there a few times, with the last shoot being a Guess campaign. Check it out!

I Like to Twirl

I've been looking for a new Fall fragrance, and I think I may have found it in Kate Spade's newest addition, Twirl!

The packaging alone made me want to buy it , but I've learned my lesson. Too many bottles have gone wasted because some scents give me headaches. So now, I always get a sample if available, and give the scent a proper test drive. Well, it's been almost a week and I keep reaching for the sample! I think we have a winner! I love that Twirl is a little sweet (not in a juvenile way), with a bit of sophistication.

Nine Month Anniversary

Chasing Beauty is Nine Months old today!

How is it October 4th already?! I've had SO much going on these past few months, that I totally missed my eight month blogiversary! I couldn't let nine go by without some sort of acknowledgment. :) Although, I didn't get the chance to blog much last month, I'm still here and haven't given up.

When I first started this blog, my work schedule was in a slow period, and I was looking for something to pour my creative energy into. One where I could talk about all of the things I love, and maybe other people would love them too. What I didn't expect, were all of the new friends I'd meet through the blog! Some of you I've only talked to through comments, and a few I've chatted with via Twitter. (it's almost like texting your blog friends! Which is why I love Twitter!) What's even more fun is when virtual friendships turn into real ones! What a better way to celebrate my Nine Month anniversay, than to have a bloggy date with a couple of my favorite bloggers/turned real life friends! On Saturday, I met up with Jamie of Glam Latte, and Valerie of Red Vines for Breakfast for some good girl chat, and the most incredible Nutella Martini's!

Here we are with our "real" drinks. We had a very interesting waitress (code for bad service), who brought these out first.

Now don't get me wrong, this drink was AMAZING, but it was a coffee drink and not really what we were after. We were looking for something a little more celebratory, with a little kick. ;) About a half an hour later (I actually started timing her at one point), our martinis finally arrived.

Ahhhh....now that's a drink! What could be better than a Nutella coated martini glass filled with the yummiest cocktail?!

Inspiration: Fall Makeup-Chanel Ad

The second I saw this ad for Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara, I was mesmerized! After spending the Summer in bright corals and bronze tones, this pink and grey combo looks so fresh. I'm loving the meticulous liner, lashes and brows, and the absence of any shine or shimmer. It's matte, but matte done right! The rose colored blush and barely there, pale pink lip compliments this polished eye perfectly. I love that you can see the precision used in the application. Flawless!

When I picked up the newest issue of Allure, lo and behold, Blake Livey is on the cover wearing a very similar version of this look.

So pretty!

To Hell and Back

You'd think this was hell! Today was the hottest day EVER in LA, topping out at 113 degrees!!! While everyone else in the country is beginning to dress in layers, we're still in flip flops and sun dresses, making regular stops for ice cream. I'm over it, and hoping that this is the usual "one last heat wave" before the air turns cool. I'm ready for sweata-weatha. ;)

In case you hadn't noticed, I'm back from my Palm Springs mini break. :) I hadn't planned on taking a week off from the blog, but it's taken me a little longer to get my act together. For those still following along, regular blog posts will start up tomorrow. I can't wait to catch up with all of you!

Girls Weekend

As much as I'd love a real vacation, where you get on a plane and don't come back for at least a week, I've come to really appreciate the "mini-break." You all know how much I've been working this year, so any chance to get even two days away, is a welcome reprieve! This weekend I'm heading out to Palm Springs for a girls' spa weekend, and to soak up the last days of Summer. (literally!) Unlike last time, I plan on staying at the resort the entire trip. I usually try to cram as much as I can into a weekend, but this time I'm going to take it easy. I can't wait to be basking in the warm desert sun, with a cocktail in hand, and chatting it up with my girls! I've never been so excited to get my R & R on! :)

A Storybook Wedding

This past Sunday I attended my cousin's wedding, (the one I've been dress shopping for) and it was one of the most gorgeous weddings I've ever witnessed! The big event took place in Malibu, but not on the beach like you would expect. Instead, they chose the private winery, Saddlerock Ranch, in Malibu canyon.

Surrounded by rolling hills, in the middle of vineyards, with breathtaking views of the valley, my cousin Jason and his beautiful bride Michelle exchanged vows high upon a hilltop. The sentiments spoken by the two of them, were so heartfelt and emotional, that many of us present were fighting back tears.

After rings were exchanged, and the ceremony was sealed with a kiss, Jason and Michelle were finally pronounced husband and wife!

Here is the happy couple, being announced as Mr. & Mrs. for the very first time, and ready to get the party started.

Jason and Michelle had been together for 10 years when they got engaged. (They met when they were in high school) It's hard to tell from this picture, but each table was marked by year. To find your table, you had to find the corresponding year, (Year 1, 2, 3, 4, etc), which included a photo of them from that year they were dating. It was such a cute way to personalize the table numbers.

The cake was pretty, and looked delicious, but I was too full from the food, that I passed on the dessert. What was I thinking?!

Instead of a long table for the entire bridal party, J & M opted for a sweetheart table.

There were lots of family photos taken, but they were left to the professionals. It's hard to remember to take pictures when there's so much going on, and you're touching up the bride's makeup in between it all. I did manage to get one photo of my Dad and I. :)

I can't say enough good things about the location for the wedding/reception. It was pretty spectacular! You literally felt like you were on top of the world.

As the sun went down, everything started to glow. Here's the view from our table.

It was a long day for me, and I knew it would be. ( I was up at 5am to be ready to start makeup by 7, for a 4pm wedding!) In preparation, I made sure I had plenty of Diet Pepsi on hand, and at about twilight, cracked open this bad boy.

Classy, right?! Well, at least I poured it into a pilsner glass.

I texted this pic to my friend who swears by Rockstar's, and is always trying to talk me into them. She knew that I was desperate.

Even though it was long, and I was tired (when am I not?), it was truly a magical day, and one that I will never forget.

One can only hope, to find that kind of love someday!

Getting Back on the Horse

I had the rare opportunity last week, to start the holiday weekend a little early, and extend it past Monday. (ok, way past) I hadn't planned on unplugging totally, but it was exactly what I needed. I didn't take a fancy vacation, or do anything in particular, but I did get a chance to reconnect to my life. I was in desperate need of decompressing, just so that I could find joy and inspiration again. Trust me, you wouldn't have wanted to read my blog last week. So, I took some extra time to myself just to LIVE. I've had zero schedule for the past seven days, and it's been such a welcome change of pace for me. So much so, that I've been struggling with getting back to normal life, and well, blogging.

But, the time has come to get down to business, and I feel ready. More importantly, I feel inspired!

I knew I should've stayed in bed today. I wanted to, but the alarm went off like usual at about 4:30 am. After hitting snooze three times, I finally left my cozy bed to begin the getting ready process. I was hurting! This was going to be one of those days, where no amount of caffeine would help. What I needed was SLEEP! On top of a very groggy morning, I had horrible traffic making me late for work! It was SO stressful!

Lately, I've been contemplating how I'm constantly burning the wick at both ends. Mostly due to my work schedule, but sometimes because I try to cram in more than is humanly possible. (Call me crazy for trying to have a life) I'm always running, running, running, and I know that I'm not the only one. Our lives are so chaotic and complicated. We're all sleep deprived, and we mainline Starbucks like fiends. (or in my case, Diet Pepsi) Don't we all need a break?

This song came on the radio today, and it went perfectly with my emo attitude and my sucky day.

I hope you're all having a better day than I am! I promise by the next post I'll have had an attitude adjustment. I just needed to vent today.

Beauty and the Beach

I figured if I didn't do it soon, I'd have to wait until next Summer. So last week, in between my morning and evening client, I headed to the beach! It was the perfect day, too! About 75 degrees with a cool breeze. Ahhhh....

I always keep my beach umbrella in the trunk of my car for impromptu trips like this. (sadly, it's used mostly for beach shoots) I'm glad I had it with me, because I'm too white to sit in the sun for hours.

These helped protect my skin too.

It felt amazing to plant my feet in the sand, and just enjoy the salt air!

It wasn't super crowded either, probably since most of the kids are back in school.

A beach day wouldn't be complete without music & fashion!

I couldn't have asked for more.

Back to School Beauty

When I was at Rite Aid, getting my weekly ice cream cone (it's a Summertime thing), I couldn't help but notice all of the back to school stuff. I remember being so excited for the new school year to start, and getting all of my supplies in order. Of course, there were new clothes, notebooks filled with college ruled paper, and plenty of No. 2 pencils. But the best shopping of all, was for back to school beauty products! I'm amazed at how many of my favorites from years ago, are still around. Some of them I still use!

Here are the products I'm feeling especially nostalgic about:

Neutrogena Original Facial Bar

My routine was so simple back then. Wash and moisturize. The smell of this bar immediately takes me back to high school.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

So basic, and was perfect for my young skin. I don't remember buying many full sizes bottles though. They would always include a trial size in the Gift with Purchase, and I LOVED the GWP! :)

Maybelline Great Lash

The classic pink and green tube is still with me today.

Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Black Honey

When I first started wearing this, it was packaged in a pot, and I was in the 7th grade. Now Clinique makes all sorts of black honey items, including nail polish. But my favorite, is still this gorgeous, sheer berry gloss. I carry this, and the Almost Lipstick version in my kit everyday.

Nivea Creamy Conditioning Oil

This stuff was the best! A cross between a lotion and an oil, it moisturized and gave a slight sheen to the skin. I haven't seen it in stores in a really long time, so it appears it's no longer available. :(

Love's Baby Soft

Scents truly do trigger memories, and this was the very first fragrance that I ever became attached to. Love's Baby Soft reminds me of mornings spent primping for school, reading Teen and Seventeen magazines, and my first crush. I still love how innocent and girly it smells. Is it weird that I kind want a bottle?

As much as I love outfits like the one I posted yesterday, I don't get to wear them all that often. The truth is, as many of you know, I work a lot! There's just no way I can deal with outfit planning or accessorizing, especially when I'm getting reading before the sun is up. Therefore, I rely heavily on basics.

Most days, you will find me in a t-shirt, leggings, a boyfriend cardi, and havaianas. You know, comfy stuff that I can get makeup on, and it doesn't matter. Sometimes, I get crazy and wear a t-shirty dress, or a pair of skinny jeans, and in the Winter, I might wear some boots instead of my usual flip flops. Exciting, right? As Katie from Fashion's Maven says, this is REAL life.

So, last weekend I did a little shopping for the staples in my wardrobe. I bought t-shirts in every shape and neutral color possible. Along with the Alexander Wang Tee that I recieved from Gilt, I picked up some great (comparable to A.Wang) American Apparel T's from their Viscose line.

I also found a couple at H & M and Forever 21.

I even bought a lace Tee, for the days when I need to look a little more pulled together.

Now that I'm good in the t-shirt department, I need to stock up on leggings. I currently have some AA's and Massimo's from Target. Not loving them. Any recommendations?

I still like my MK watch, but I'm starting to feel like it's the Tiffany heart bracelet of '09-'10. Everyone has it! Maybe it's time to shake things up with a new tank watch, or one with a classic leather band?

And here's the big question...What color should I paint my nails?! Right now I'm wearing a bright pink. If I leave them, then I'll probably do my makeup like this...

The September Issues

I live for this time of year, and for the telephone book thickness of American Vogue! Each year it seems that they get bigger and bigger, and this year did not disappoint! I felt like I needed a shopping cart when I was at Border's, buying my $30 dollars (and 30 lbs.) worth of research! I devour every last page, from editorials to advertisements, and have even been known to clip images to create my own Fall (insert year) story board. (I'm a geek, I know) :)

A Day In The Life

Sorry I've been a little MIA this week but my schedule has been pretty killer. All good stuff, but sometimes your body just needs to rest, and that's exactly what I did yesterday. I was in bed all day! The reason...Take a look at Wednesday's schedule.

3:30 am Alarm goes off. Time to wake up. (are you serious?!) Hit snooze.
3:39 am Alarm goes off again. Don't want to get out of bed, but know if I don't, I'll be late. Turn alarm off and hit the shower.
4:30 am Need caffeine! Pour 1st Diet Pepsi of the day (into my Venti Starbucks cold cup)
4:45 am Pack up the car. Makeup, check. Hair stuff, check. Sweatshirt and Ugg boots for when it gets cold later, check.
4:50 am Top off Diet Pepsi for the drive.
4:55 am Driving to the 1st location, in the dark.
5:30 am Loving the drive to work. There's zero traffic! A rarity in LA.
6:00 am The sun is beginning to rise. So pretty!
6:15 am Arrive at location #1 in Agoura Hills.
6:30 am Get hair and makeup station set up.

6:45 am Grab Breakfast.

6:50 am All Star Weekend arrives early for video shoot.

7:00 am Start hair and makeup.
8:00 am Hair and makeup done, and ready for first shot of the day.

9:00 am Realize that I never ate my breakfast. Pouring 2nd Diet Coke of the day. (had to switch to diet coke because there's no diet pepsi on set. bummer!)
9:30 am Director wants me to take a peek at the extras to make sure they look good. Some of them need tweaking. I'm so glad I brought an assistant today!
11:15 am Pretty much on schedule. The shots are moving quickly, and everything is looking great.
11:20 am When is lunch? I'm starving and Craft Service (a glorified term for on-set snack bar) is pretty sad. Not to mention that bees are swarming all over everything. Gross!
12:30 pm It just got seriously hot! I'm talking at least 10 degrees or more, and we're outside in the Valley with estimated temps in the 100 range!
12:35 pm Quick touch up of the guys, for last shot before lunch.
1:00 pm Break for lunch. They're serving up Mexican food, and it's so yummy! I think on a normal day I'd think it was just ok, but I'm starving, so it's the best fajitas ever! On to Diet Coke #3.
2:00 pm Company move, which is production speak for everything and everyone moves to another location.
2:05 pm My car is SO hot! I can't get my a/c working fast enough. I feel disgusting. I'm sweaty, and feel dirty from being in the canyon on dirt roads. I want a shower! Glad we're heading to the beach where it will be cooler.
2:10 pm Drive to location #2. Beautiful drive through the canyon and up PCH. Gorgeous day!
3:00 pm Stop at Neptune's Net for Diet Coke #4. Don't judge.

3:15 pm Arrive at location #2. Ahhhh....the beach!
3:30 pm Touch up all of the guys.
4:45 pm I spot a seal in the water and point it out to Michael. He insists that it's a ball, and then I see the seal's head turn. Michael still thinks it's a ball, until the seal swims away showing full body. Awww..This is Michael.

5:30 pm The guys having a little fun while waiting for the cameras and lighting to get set up for the next shot.

6:45 pm Setting the scene for the beach party to happen after the sun goes down.

7-7:30pm Getting the money shot of Zach next to a vintage Chevelle, with sun setting in the background. Classic California.

9:30 pm Realize that I've been standing at least 13 of the 15 hours I've been working! Starting to feel really tired and my back is killing me!
10:30 pm 2 shots left. I'm tired, and the guys are exhausted!
11:00 pm MARTINI SHOT! (aka last shot of the day)
11:30 pm That's a wrap! Yay!

11:35 pm Hugs and kisses to everyone as we say our goodbyes.

12:00 pm Drive home. I can barely hold my eyes open and really should not be driving.

Song of the Day: All Star Weekend: Dance Forever

If you're over the age of 16, or don't watch the Disney channel, you may have never heard of All Star Weekend, but let me tell you...these boys are about ready to go big! (in a Jonas Bros. kind of way) Last week, I spent the day at Disneyland with Zach, Michael, Nathan and Cameron, and everywhere we turned girls were shouting, "OMG...it's All Star Weekend!" I've been working with them since the beginning of the year, and was just realizing how much they're blowing up! It's SO cute!

Monday, I was with the boys in Malibu for a photoshoot, and today we're shooting their next music video, so I thought I'd show them a little love on "ye old blog."

Aren't they just adorable? I'm hoping that some of the energy that ASW has in Dance Forever, will rub off on me today. We begin the day at 6:30 am, and wrap at 10:30 at night! And, I'm breaking in a new assistant. Bwahaha! :D

Eat Pray Shop

I actually had two days off in a row this weekend! It was so amazing, and needed! Saturday, I spent the entire day shopping, and then went to see Eat Pray Love. I don't want to say too much about the movie in case some of you haven't seen it yet, but my favorite part was when Liz (Julia Roberts) was in Italy, eating all of that great food. In fact, I've been craving pasta ever since! Overall I thought the movie was ok. There were parts that I loved, and parts that I didn't, but just for the locations alone it's worth seeing. Song of the Day: Plain White T's - Rhythm of Love

Last week, I went to the Jay Leno Show with some of my favorite guys, the Plain White T's. It's always so much fun getting them ready for appearances, and never feels like I'm "working." We did a little grooming, some goofing off, and a whole lot of catching up! It had been almost a year since I'd seen them last, as they've been hard at work, in the studio, recording their next album. I always get excited to hear their new material, and even more so this time, since guitarist Tim Lopez was taking over lead vocals, with usual front man, Tom Higgenson singing harmony.

"Rhythm of Love" is the first single from Plain White T's' upcoming album "The Wonders of the Younger" which will be released later this year. The song, also written by Tim, is a brightly melodic tune, inspired by a bittersweet romance.

I fell in love with this catchy tune from the moment I heard it, and had to share it with all of you! It's the perfect "end of Summer" song.

$65 Dollars For Mascara?

Last week, when I was at Barney's to pick up Mr. Alexander Wang, I spent a little time playing at the makeup counter. I hardly ever do this, because I'm surrounded by makeup and beauty products all day, but it's part of my job to stay on top of things.

I had been wanting to check out Serge Lutens minimalist makeup line for sometime, and I had just enough time to really get my hands dirty and test each product. I've been using SL makeup remover pads on my clients for a while, so I knew the line was pricey, but $65 dollars for a mascara?! You've got to be out of your mind!!! Well, I may actually be out of mine, because I can't stop thinking about it! It really is the most amazing mascara I've ever tried, and I've tried everything! I will even go as far as to say, it is the HOLY GRAIL of mascaras! What's so amazing about it? Well, let me tell you...

Mascara Comb $65

It has a comb wand, which makes it perfect for getting to the base of the lash, the color is SO inky-black and glossy, it volumizes and lengthens without clumping, and your lashes are left with a flexible hold. There's zero crunchiness to this mascara! It also deposits a bit of color at the lash line, giving you the look of a lightly lined eye. There literally, is nothing of this quality on the market, and that quality comes at a steep price. Yes, there are plenty of good mascaras out there, that get the job done. My favorites have always been drugstore brands, partially because I go through them so quick, but mostly because they work. Mascara is where I usually "save," so I can splurge on things like Armani Foundation. But, now that I've found the HG of mascaras, how will I ever be satisfied with my usual Maybelline?

The rest of the line is a well edited collection of basics, of the highest quality. (and the highest price!) Some of my favorites are:

Compact Foundation $160

Most fine powders are triple milled, but Serge Lutens takes this a step further. This powder/foundation has the most velvety texture, and creates a flawless finish without looking dry or cakey.

Blusher $160

Blusher as they call it, is more of a really beautiful bronzer. It has the same texture as the Compact Foundation, with an ever so slight luminosity. You're paying extra for the fancy case for both of these powders, but they do sell them individually as refills for $80. (bargain)

Lipstick $75

Yes, $75 for a lipstick! Again, you're paying for the case as these are refillable as well. ($55) Packed in each sleek tube is a high amount of pigment. It only took the tiniest amount of lip color to give me the most gorgeous, berry stained lips. I also tried their Lip Pencil $55, which is pretty much a "one color - suits most." I typically don't use lip liner, but the tone of this one is surprising. I loved how it perfected my lip line without looking overdrawn or outdated.

Makeup Remover Pads $35

I already mentioned that I've been using these for a while, and they are the most incredible things ever! They aren't wet, like typical wipe removers, instead they have a dry/oil feel. They remove everything, including the most stubborn waterproof mascara, and leave zero mess behind. You're left with a clean and moisturized eye area. Honestly, they are like nothing you've ever used to remove your makeup. I was floored the first time I used them, and now they've become a staple in my kit. (an expensive staple)

I know these prices are ridiculous for most people, but I'm a makeup artist and can write this stuff off. Still, I'm curious...Would you spend $65 on mascara? Am I crazy for even thinking about it?

Fall 2010: Zara

These gorgeous images are from Zara's 2010 Fall Campaign, and with the launch of their Fall line comes some very exciting news!

Zara is finally taking the leap into E-commerce! about time!

If you go to Zara.com, a banner flashes "Shop Online starting September 2nd" before it automatically directs you to the regular site. There aren't any details, but the following countries are listed: France, Germany, Italy, UK, Portugal and Spain. The US is conspicuously missing, so hopefully it's either an oversight or the US will be added soon after the online shop is up and running. In the meantime, check out this sneak peak of what's to come...

I love this casual weekend outfit, with jeans, a chunky nude sweater and leopard clutch! I think I need that bag! ;)

The sweater dresses look so comfy-cozy! Either long or short, this is definitely on my Fall shopping list!

And, I love how the nude and gray palette has translated to the makeup, without using shimmer. This is an almost matte finish, with just a hint of glow around the eyes. I'm looking forward to working with subdued tones, and moving toward a more modern and polished face, like this one.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

I hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing weekend. Yesterday, I did not leave my bed unless absolutely necessary, and caught up on much needed rest, blog reading, and chick movies. It was great, but now my work week starts again. Today I'm getting All Star Weekend ready to walk the red carpet of the Teen Choice awards. I adore these boys, and can't wait to see them, but I'm really hoping to get back to my bed asap! Now if I was actually going to the award show, and could catch a glimpse of the yummy Robert Pattinson, I would care less about bed! And yes...I'm fourteen. :)

Bag Lady

In case you haven't noticed by now, I'm totally obsessed with bags! You know how some people are really into shoes? Well, I'm into those too, but I DREAM about bags! I think I could actually have a whole blog dedicated to them, but we all know how much time that takes. :)

I've been drooling over the now infamous, Alexander Wang "Rocco" for about a year, and even talked about it here. When this year's version included a shoulder strap, it was pretty much a done deal. So, the other day when I was playing hooky to enjoy the sun, I also NEEDED to make a Barney's run! (I just rhymed! lol!)

The pebbled leather is soft, yet feels durable at the same time, and the size is perfect for me. It's about the same size as my LV Speedy's, and I can carry it in the crook of my arm, or use the shoulder strap. Louis Vuitton needs to step it up! Sometimes you just need to be hands free!

And, if you think that's the end of my little bag story, you're couldn't be more wrong.

Last week, I was suppose to go to an Angels game with my Dad. He has season tickets, and I usually go with him a few times during the Summer. So, we get off the freeway, and are heading into Anaheim Stadium, when we realize that something is missing. The people! I checked the tickets, and we had the day right, but the game was over and had started at noon! LOL! Needless to say, there was a change in plans. We headed to the Block at Orange for a little din-din, and then I coerced my Dad into shopping at the newly opened Neiman Marcus Last Call. When I spotted this L.A.M.B. clutch, I knew I had to have it! It's exactly the pop of color I've been looking for, and at 40% off, I couldn't refuse!

Seven Month Anniversary

Chasing Beauty is Seven Months old today!

I can't believe that this year is half over! It seems like things are moving pretty fast, especially over the past couple of months! Since my work schedule picked up, I've definitely struggled to stay on top of the blog, but I feel like I'm getting back into a rhythm. My posts don't always go up when I want them to, but I'm ok with that. I'm also cutting myself some slack. There's only so many days/hours a week, and when you spend most of them working there's not a lot left over for anything else. Yesterday was a perfect example of that. Lately, my time off has been all about laundry, family weddings, and blog catch up. Sometimes, I just need a break from the computer to go out and have a little fun, or buy a new bag! :D (more on that tomorrow) I'm still trying to figure out a routine for myself, but my schedule fluctuates. Just when I think I've got it down, it changes! The life of a freelancer. :)

I did learn so much from all of you, when I did my informal "bloggy questionaire." I don't know about you, but I loved that post! It made me realize how much we all put into our blogs, and I appreciate you all SO much more because of it. So, thank you, thank you, thank you... for all of your hard work and dedication to your own blogs, and thank you for supporting mine! You amazing people keep me going! xoxo

Yesterday I was in Urban Outfitters, and they were playing one of my favorite bands of the moment, Phoenix. Most days, you will find me blasting them in my headphones while blogging. Since today I plan on catching up on my blog reading, I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite songs with you. Granted, the entire "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" album is amazing, so if you're just hearing about them for the first time, you should definitely check out some of their other songs. Renegade Craft Fair: Part 2

I adore stationery, and have been known to doddle for hours while in some of my favorite paper stores. I knew that stationery would have a strong pressence at Renegade, and I was not disappointed. There was so much variety, that even I was overwhelmed by choice. I'm great at buying cards, but not always great at sending them. Oops. ;) So, I was a good girl, and only bought what I would actually use.

One of my first stationery stops was at the In-Vita Paper Studio booth. In-Vita has a wide range of darling greeting cards, thank you notes, and invitations! They also do personalized stationery, and even wedding invites.

I had to refrain from buying one of everything!

I'm obsessed with the pattern of these blank note cards! And the colors are right up my alley! I bought these two.

The next stop on my stationery tour was to the Jen Hewett booth.

Jen is based in San Francisco, and likes working with different media. She not only illustrates, but also silkscreens some of her sewn items. I'm already wishing that I would've bought more from her, but she does have an Etsy shop. Already bookmarked and saved in my favorites. :)

What girl doesn't love shoes? These cards and prints stole my heart. The little floral notebooks were pretty sweet too!

The shoes showed up again on natural linen zippered bags. Perfect for storing makeup! :)

I'm kicking myself for not getting this one, now that I'm looking at it again. This bag looks just like that paper from elementary school, that we used to learn how write in "cursive." Wouldn't this be the cutest back-to-school present?

I just can't get enough of this "wellies" print! As much as I adored everything in Jen's shop, I used restraint and picked up these cards:

There were so many amazing artists at RCF! I could've had a whole week of posts to showcase them all! Instead, I encourage you to go next year, and support these talented, indie creators! I'm sure that the 2011 RCF will be even better!

How Do You Blog?

My schedule for today got rearranged, so I haven't had time to put together the Renegade- Part 2 post. Look for that one tomorrow. Instead, I want your feedback.

The other day, Stephanie of Maybe Someday We'll Be Smarter, tweeted that she had spent 4 hours writing her blog post for the day. I could totally relate, as it often times takes me 2-4 hrs creating some of mine. When I add it up, I spend roughly 15-20 hrs. per week on Chasing Beauty. So, I started wondering...are Stephanie and I the only ones who spend this much time blogging? I'm curious about how you all blog, so I'd like to conduct a little questionaire. Nothing scientific here, I'm just being nosey. :)

How long does it take you to put together a typical post?
How much time per week would you say that you blog?
How many days a week do you post?
Do you write your posts ahead of time? If so, how many do you like to have drafted, ready to go?

Renegade Craft Fair: Part 1

Even though I spent most of last weekend working, I did manage to squeeze in a little crafty excursion. Renegade Craft Fair had been on my radar for awhile, so I was excited to finally check it out, now that LA is one of the cities the fair travels to.

It was a fun day out, with hands-on craft workshops, and even a photo booth!

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the indie-craft talents of the artists who came to show their wares. There was a lot to see, but I quickly found my favorites. One of the first stops I made was at the QNZ - Queens Metal booth.

QNZ is known for using of a variety of metals, and fusing the industrial with the organic. I immediately spotted this "Beach Pebble" Necklace from their Sprout line.

Here's a quick photo I took using my computer, just so you could see it on. (Sorry, I'm not showing my face because Photo Booth makes me look disgusting!)

I wouldn't normally wear it with this outfit, but you get the idea. It looks perfect with something simple like a solid black dress. I love that this piece is so different than any of my other jewelry, which is exactly what I was looking to find. Something unique.

The next booth I stopped at, drew me in by this pair of cuties.

These adorable cats, are by Ryan Berkley Illustrations. He happens to create lots of other animals, but I didn't take pictures of them. I'm sure you've noticed by now that I'm more of a cat person. As soon as I saw the pair of kitties in their t-shirts, I envisioned my "two" in the picture. I decided to take a chance and ask the artist if he does "pet portraits." He said, that normally he doesn't, but he was getting ready to do a pet portrait event! Ryan is planning on doing a limited number for this event, so not everyone interested will get a sitting. I described my cats to him, even showed him a couple of pics on my iphone, and he said that they would be a fun portrait for him. He seemed excited about it. Needless to say, I'm #1 on his list of people interested, so I'll keep you posted if it happens. Keep your fingers crossed!

Considering that this was only the 2nd year of Renegade-LA, I thought the turn out was great! Apparently, the artists were happy that so many people came out too. Hopefully next year is even better!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: The Damage

Don't you want to know what's in the bag??? Well, I'm pretty sure you can guess that there's a Rebecca Minkoff bag in there, but which one? It was a tough decision, because in a perfect world, I would've walked out with all four! But yeah...back to reality. It really came down to the fuchsia or the grey. I loved both, but decided to go with this little pretty:

The deciding factor was my cherry red wallet. I didn't like that it clashed with the fuchsia bag. Is that crazy? Not that anyone is looking in my bag, but it bugged me. I'm not really a matchy kind of girl, but I at least like things to coordinate. Anyway, here's some more pics of my new bag.

Here it is with the long chain strap (21 inch drop), and while I was in the store, figured out that I could double the strap to create a whole new look!

Definitely more ladylike this way. But then, of course, I can remove the strap entirely to carry it as a clutch.

Three bags in one! Maybe I should've bought all four! Doesn't the gold look pretty against this dark grey?

My friend talked me into this Christopher Kon hobo bag.

It's a nice, buttery leather, and more casual than my black LV. The braided shoulder strap is sturdy and very comfortable.

I love that the inside is chambray!

The only problem, is now I'm having second thoughts! I like this bag a lot, but I'm DYING for this one:

Alexander Wang Rocco Mini Duffel $875

I paid roughly $200 for the Christopher Kon bag. If I return it, I can put that money towards the A. Wang. Or, should I keep it and get the Wang bag as well? Do I really need both? They're totally different bags, but I have a feeling if I buy the Wang, I'm going to want to carry it all the time. I think I just answered my own question. :) The hardware on the CK is silver and on the AW it's brass. Oh, I don't know what to do. Help!

Happy { Crafty } Weekend

I hope everyone is off to a fabulous weekend! I have to work later, but I'm hoping to make it to the Renegade Craft Fair before. If you've never heard about Renegade, it's basically a large scale DIY event featuring hundreds of independent artists and their unique handmade items. RCF is held in cities across the US every year- including Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco, Austin, and now Los Angeles! The fair is known for being one of the first events of its kind, and for featuring top-notch indie craft artists and designers who travel from all over the map to participate. They also have live music, and I've heard that the gormet food trucks will be out in force. Could be trouble!

I Had Good Intentions

I really did.

I was all set up at my favorite little cafe, with free WiFi, and the yummiest vanilla latte ever. I was ready to start blogging away, when all of a sudden, I accidentally clicked on Nordstrom's website! (ok, maybe not such an accident) ;) I was quickly reminded of this:

Sorry people. A sale is a sale, and it's calling my name! What would you do??

I've already been once, and didn't buy anything. (The horror!) However, this Rebecca Minkoff clutch caught my eye, and it's haunting me. I think I just might purchase if they have any left. The question is...which color?

I like them all, but not sure what I'll use the most. I love the gold hardware against the black, but this is the safe choice, and maybe a little boring? The dark grey is a nice alternative, and the brown looks so rich! The fuchsia is just a fun pop of color, which I might need. I have black bags, and lots of brown, but zero gray, and almost no color.

5. I think the Bachelor/Bachelorette is SO beyond ridiculous, and yet I watch every episode. I don't know how I get sucked into the madness, but they've got me...hook, line, and sinker, everytime!

6. I can't wait for Bachelor Pad to start! (August 9th)

7. I love Jelly Belly's, but I don't like buying the assorted pack. I only buy them from a candy store where I can pick out the flavors I like. (green apple, very cherry, peach, pear, pineapple, red apple, grapefruit, and tangerine) I don't buy them often, because once I start, I can't stop. I literally make myself sick, like a 5 year old.

8. I'm obsessed with bed linens. Duvet covers, pillow shams, and sheets galore! I like keeping my bedroom pretty neutral, so I can change the look with different bedding. I've got a collection of duvet covers in all sorts of colors to keep things fresh. Oddly enough, I'm not using any of them at the moment. My down comforter is naked.

9. I'm dying for a pair of sparrow Miu Miu's, but sadly they're nowhere to be found.

10. Which is fine, because I live my life in Havaiana's.

Like many of my favorite fashion bloggers, Caroline Blomst has made style her occupation. She works as the fashion editor of the Swedish website Feber.se, and runs the blog StockholmStreetStyle. She also maintains her own style blog, CarolinesMode, where she posts her fashion inspiration, her own "Wearing Today" pics, and newly acquired shopping conquests. In addition to blogging, Caroline regularly posts images of her outfits to Chictopia and Lookbook.nu.

It's hard to ignore how pretty Caroline is. She looks like a model straight off of the runway, with barely there makeup, and tousled wavy hair. Caroline's style is simple, and casual, yet she knows how to make a statement with anything from a pink Balenciaga motorcycle bag to a pair of studded Chuck Taylor's. Her accessories closet alone, would make any fashionista green with envy, myself included. But with Caroline, it's not just about high end designer pieces. She typically pairs items from stores like H&M, Zara, and Asos, with luxury brand bags and shoes. Her innate talent for mixing pieces and setting trends is evident throughout her blog.

When giving out style advice, she says it's best not to read too many fashion blogs, or you'll risk losing your sense of yourself. In this day and age of global fashion via the internet, I think she's got a point. While influenced by some of the season's best designs, Caroline's style is undeniably her own. The heat is on in LA, and I'm taking advantage of my four days off, to get working on my tan. I'll be spending some time by the pool (with sunscreen on), reading a fun book, and then retreating inside to watch movies and tackle my HUGE laundry pile. I've been dreaming of a weekend like this, minus the laundry part. ;)

Shoes and To-Do's Part 2

Sorry I left you all hanging yesterday. By the time I got home, I was pretty tired from running around all day. I really didn't intend for such a big build up to the reveal, and now I feel you might be a little disappointed. So without further delay, here's my new purchase.

They're not fancy heels, but I love them! (and they'll definitely get worn more than heels!) I saw these sandals on a girl who was working at Anthropologie, and I told her how pretty I thought they were. She instantly said, "Oh...Stuart Weitzman. Got them at Nordstrom." I, kind of, just forgot about them because I knew they'd be pretty expensive, until I hit the Neiman Marcus sale! Originally, they were $235, but I picked them up for $72! Score!

I guess I've been on a bit of a shopping spree, because I bought another pair of sandals last week too! Only these are SKY HIGH! I'd been looking for a nude shoe, and while this isn't exactly what I had in mind, the price was too good to pass up! They remind me of the Stuart Weitzman espadrilles that Jennifer Aniston has been seen wearing. Here's the SW version:

And here are the Jessica Simpson shoes that I bought for $43!!!

Even though they're not espadrilles, the straps are the same width, and wrap the ankle in the same way. I would normally pass up heels that are this high, but the platform makes them feel SO much lower. I got a fresh pedicure yesterday, so later I'll post pics of them on.

My First Wearing Today Post

Sort of. While I'm a big fan of "Wearing Today" posts, I'm not a fan of the "me being in the picture" part. You see, I'm a BEHIND the camera person. I'm part of the crew, the girl who gets people ready for photo shoots. Not the one IN the photo shoot! But, I do like styling up my outfits, so you might see more of these posts creeping into the blog.

I've had this BR necklace forever, and I wear it at least once a week! It's my go-to necklace that makes even a basic t-shirt look more pulled together. And this ring that I blogged about here, has quickly become my favorite!

I've worn this belt with so many things! It's one of my most versatile accessories!

This Linea Pelle bag is such a nice change from my usual LV's. The leather is so soft, and this deep honey color goes with everything!

Probably my "most loved" pair of shoes! Perfect height, and SUPER comfortable! I can literally be in them all day.

In My Bag

Last week, Katie from Fashion's Maven, basically tagged everyone to do a "What's In My Bag" post. Since I've been wanting to switch to one of my shoulder bags, I figured this would be the perfect time to show you what I carry. Let's get started!

This is the bag I've been lugging all of my stuff in, for the past couple of months. The Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Speedy 30. I bought it back in 2007, and it's proved to be a worthy investment. I love taking it out of it's dust bag, at the first signs of Spring! At three years old, it's still holding up really well, although I do miss the ivory tone of the leather it had when it was new. Here it is when I first brought it home.

Wasn't it pretty? As soon as I switch to my "Fall" bags, this one is going in for service. I'm going to have all of the leather replaced, so that next Spring it'll look brand new.

So, back to what it looks like now.

It's hard to tell by this picture, how much stuff is in there, but it holds a ton! Here's another pic. I had to hit it with a little flash because it was too dark in there.

Inside my LV, I have a Purseket to help keep me organized. Otherwise, everything would be floating around, all over the place.

Adventures of the iPhone 4

This was the scene at midnight, while waiting to get my hands on the elusive iPhone 4. Yes, I was one of those crazy people that stood in line for 7 hours for A PHONE! But believe me, I didn't plan on it.

I had pre-ordered my phone, which required me to pick it up within business hours on release day, or lose my reservation. I knew the store would be insane, especially in the morning, so I did a drive by. It was worse than expected, with a ridiculously long line for people without a reservation, and an even longer line for the people who pre-ordered! I thought for sure that they'd sell out within the first half of the day, and then I'd come back later. I had no idea how late that would be!

Since my store closes at 9 pm, I thought I'd be smart, and get there at about 7:30 to take my place in line. The first couple of hours wasn't too bad. I was surrounded by Apple lovers, and everyone was kind of geeking out over technology. It was like standing in line for Star Wars! At around 9'ish they handed out vouchers to come back the next day, just in case security made them shut down the line. They assured us that they'd stay until everyone got their phone. At about the 4th hour, I was feeling pretty stupid for being one of THOSE people, that had to have it on the first day. I mean seriously...I wasn't going to die without it. I had a perfectly fine 3g already! By the time I thought about taking photos to document the madness, I'd been in line for about 5 hours and my battery was dead on my phone and my camera. So the only device left was my Flip. (hence the video) When I finally got into the store and purchased the new phone it was 2am! I was exhausted and hungry, but I had my phone. I've never felt like a bigger idiot!

So, was it worth it? Yes and no.

YES:

The iPhone 4 is SUPER fast! Web pages that would take forever to load on my 3g, now load at lightning speed! Multi-tasking works well, and everything seems to shift seamlessly between apps. The resolution is incredible, and the upgraded camera with flash takes fantastic photos! Also, the front facing camera lens and option to shoot HD video has been a fun bonus. You can also change your home screen background, which previously could only be done on a jail broken phone. With the new addition of folders, it's easy to organize apps by category and eliminate clutter as well.

NO:

FaceTime (video calling) is pretty useless, unless you and another iPhone 4 user are both on WiFi. This will move to the YES category when it becomes available through the 3g network. The new design feels a little clunky compared to the old curvier style. I miss the way my 3g felt in my hand. This new shape with sharper edges and glass back, makes me feel like I'm going to drop it. I never felt like I was going to drop my 3g, nor did I have a case for it either. I've heard that the iPhone 4 feels naked without the bumper that Apple is selling. I ordered one, but it doesn't ship until the end of the month, so I'll have to report back on that. Also, there's a little issue with the antenna band that wraps around the phone. By holding it in your left hand, you cause the signal to drop. This is a known issue that Apple has acknowledged, finally, so hopefully a fix will come in the next update. Another thing that bugs me, is the way the folders look. I would love to be able to create an icon for the folders on the home screen. It looks a little messy, which for me, defeats the purpose. Not a huge deal, but would be nice.

Even though my "NO" list is a bit longer, it's still an iPhone, and I'd be lost without it! I definitely didn't need to wait in line for 7 hours, but the love-fest continues!

My friend Maranda is an amazing hair and makeup artist, and it seems that her daughter Biba is following in her mother's footsteps! Biba recently demonstrated her unbelievable skills, when she worked her "makeup magic" on actress Malin Akerman (27 Dresses, The Proposal, Couples Retreat). I have to say, that I've never seen Malin look more beautiful!

Remember the name...Biba. Pat McGrath should be worried.

Six Month Anniversary

Chasing Beauty is Six Months old today!

I hope you all had an amazing 4th! Yesterday was my first day off, in... I don't know how long, and all I wanted to do was stay in bed and watch movies. But it was the 4th of July, and I had to do something! As much as I needed to rest, I went to my friend's BBQ, which was a nice, small-ish affair of about 10 people. It was perfect! Super lo-key and just the type of party I needed if I was going to be socializing at all. We did the typical pigging out that one does on the 4th, with plenty of dessert to follow. It didn't take much to put me into a food coma, but by the time fireworks started, I was ready to sleep! I was able to catch a good portion of the Rose Bowl fireworks, (which were gorgeous) before heading home early to beat the traffic. I couldn't wait to climb into bed, but more importantly, was really looking forward to today and not having to be anywhere! Ahhhhhh! I've been dreaming of this! :)

It wasn't until this morning when I realized, that my very neglected blog turned six months old yesterday! Wow...this year sure is going by fast! I wish it would slow down! Part of why this year seems like such a blur, is because I've been so busy! Too busy. I've decided that I need to start saying NO more often, and taking better care of myself. This isn't always possible, but I can definitely improve in this area. Even just to carve out a little more downtime to recharge my batteries. It's hard to feel inspired and creative when you're running on fumes. I'd love to have more time to devote to the blog, and to get in more blog reading! I feel like I've been missing so much! Aside from blogging, it's Summertime, and I'm craving warm weather activities like: a day at the pool with a good book, a beach party complete with bonfire and s'mores, margaritas with girlfriends on a balmy Summer night, and a picnic under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl, just to name a few. I'd really like to check some of these off the list, by the time Fall rolls around!

Hopefully this month will bring a balance to my work, life, and blog. I desperately need it! Thank you all so much for sticking with me, while I navigate this uncharted territory. Your comments and words of encouragement keep me going!

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Rather than dealing with the midnight madness, I opted to see Eclipse this morning without the screaming teens. (which I highly recommend) And, all I have to say is OME!!! (oh my Edward, for you non-twihards) :) Eclipse is the best movie of the Twilight Saga so far! I wasn't really expecting to LOVE it as much as I did. Typically, I purchase my Twilight tickets in advance, and make an event out of it, but not this time. Maybe I've just been too busy to think about it, but I wasn't all that enthusiastic about opening day like usual. In fact, I didn't even think I was going to see it today, but WOW...am I glad I did! I don't want to ruin it for anyone, especially if you haven't read the books, but this is the first time you really see some emotion from these characters. Finally, they feel three dimensional! In the first movie, I felt like Edward and Bella's love went from 0 to 60 in an instant! In this installment, you get to see exactly why they love each other, and why she loves Jacob too. The relationships seem better developed, and the dialogue is far less cheesy. Eclipse perfectly sets the stage for Breaking Dawn, and flawlessly captures the book. And, did I mention that Robert Pattinson looks other worldly?! I mean, how can someone be so gorgeous??!! I will be seeing it again, before the weekend is over!

My "So Called" Crazy Life

Hi! Remember me? I'm that makeup artist and sometimes blogger that suddenly fell off of the face of the Earth. :) I wish I could see a break in sight, but sadly, I'm intensely booked through July 17th! Granted, this is not a bad problem to have, it just leaves little time for blogging. Actually, my choice of late has been sleep vs. blog. You've obviously seen which has been winning out, and I'm barely getting 4-5 hrs a night at that! So, if I all of a sudden I go missing again...you know what's happening.

My last post I was debating whether or not to get the black or white iPhone. I got the black since it's the only one available. (apparently there's a problem with production of the white) Look for a full review of the iPhone 4 coming very soon.

This past weekend was eventful to say the least! Saturday I watched my little cousin get married, and what a beautiful bride she was!

Immediately following the wedding, I spent the night in the ER with my Dad, because he was having complications from a recent eye surgery. He's fine now, but getting home from the wedding at 5:30 am was pretty brutal, and the topper...I had to be at work by 9 am! Sunday was hard, as I had no sleep and zero downtime to prepare for the upcoming week. Then, Monday morning came and I got the call that I've been waiting for...my sister-in-law went into labor! I had a full day scheduled, but was able to clear my afternoon to await the arrival of my niece. After three boys, my brother and sis-in-law finally did it! A baby girl! I'm so excited that now I'll get to shop all of the isles at Toys-R-Us! lol!

Poll: iPhone 4 - Black or White?

So, today is the big day... I'm getting my new iPhone! I'm soooo excited!!! I've already pre-ordered the black, because the white wasn't available to reserve on opening day. But, now I'm thinking that white might be a fun change, since I've had black for 2+ years. I'm not even sure that white will be available when I go to the store, but if it is....should I get it? I still really like the sleekness of the black though. Ugh! I can't decide! Which would you get? Black or White? Please vote below.

Sweet, Sweet Rose

It's finally Summer, and one of my favorite ways to beat the heat, is going for ice cream! It's the perfect end to a day at the beach, or just the perfect end to any day! (who am I kidding, right?) I'd been hearing such rave reviews about the newly opened Sweet Rose Creamery, that I had to check it out. ( I had to...it was research) :) Sweet Rose is located at the Brentwood Country Mart, and very close to Drybar. So a couple of weeks ago, after getting a stellar blowout, I decided to pay them a visit. And now I think I'm in trouble, because their ice cream is AMAZING!!! Seriously, this could be bad, because I'm totally addicted!

At Sweet Rose Creamery, they make small batches of homemade ice cream using only the best ingredients. They use organic milk and cream from Clover Organic Farms, organic eggs and sugar and never use any stabilizers or ice cream bases. Also all of their toppings, cones, sauces and ice cream sandwiches are made from scratch daily.

The seasonal ice cream and sorbet menu (using local market produce where possible) was created by Shiho Yoshikawa, formerly of Tartine; it includes such flavors as ginger, strawberry, malted chocolate with candied hazelnuts, peanut butter (which literally tastes like frozen PB) and grapefruit mint. The little shop also offers upscale versions of childhood treats: homemade waffle cones (regular and chocolate); Valrhona fudge pops; bon bons; neapolitan ice cream; and floats, sodas, shakes and sundaes.

As yummy as everything is, the decor seems to make it all taste better. The tulip dishes, red-clad bar stools, and reusable metal tasting spoons, all make for an updated ice-cream parlor experience. There’s even a little bowl of fleur de sel behind the counter for sprinkling onto salted caramel ice cream!

After tasting almost every flavor, I decided to go a little lighter, and ordered the Grapefruit Mint sorbet.

So unbelievably DELISH!!!

Normally I'm a necklace girl, but lately have wanted to pile on bracelets and cocktail rings. One store that never fails me in the jewelry department, is Banana Republic. They always have interesting pieces that look far more expensive than they actually are, and don't "turn" like Forever 21 jewelry. Whenever I'm complimented on my "bling," I'm undoubtedly wearing some BR. Here's a few new additions that I picked up last week:

The two outside bracelets are the new ones. The chain link in the center is an older BR bracelet that I've been wearing to break up the fanciness of the other two.

I have the best Dad in the world, and I can't wait to honor him this Father's Day! He's always been the most amazing example of a man, and has been my biggest supporter and fan in all areas of my life. Our relationship hasn't always been easy...there were those pesky teenage years. (sorry Dad) But, through it all, we have a really developed a wonderful father/daughter bond. Here's a poem that I found, that describes exactly how I feel about my Dad:

Their Blowing is Growing

In case you haven't heard yet, Drybar is expanding, and opening two new LA locations by fall! Here's the email that I just received from Drybar owner, Alli Webb, explaining:

Ladies,

It's official! Drybar is coming to Studio City (on Ventura next to Stacey Todd) and West Hollywood (at Sunset Plaza). Two more Drybars! Yay! We’re sooooo excited.

Both locations will have 10 chairs (compared to Brentwood's 8) and are scheduled to open later this year, roughly Sept/Oct.

For those of you who have ever had a hard time booking an appointment in Brentwood (I’m so sorry - I had no idea we’d be this busy!), I’m confident that these two new and nearby locations will help alleviate the congestion and make getting an appointment a little easier.

I can't begin to tell you how much your ongoing support means to us. Drybar is a 24/7 commitment for me and my family, and I sincerely thank you all for helping to make it such a success.

Song of the Day: Poker Face (Glee version)

As I mentioned recently, I'm totally obsessed with Glee! The show, the music, the hilarity! One of my favorite moments from this Season was when Rachel (Lea Michele) sang Poker Face with her birth Mother (Idina Menzel). It's the most inappropriate song for a Mother and Daughter to sing together, which makes it even more amazing! I love this version and can't get it out of my head! It literally is a master class in singing!

I've been addicted to my 3g for two blissful years, and would be lost without it! In fact, I've had such an amazing experience with my iPhone, that I've now made the switch to a Mac! So, guess who's already pre-ordered the new iPhone 4?! Ummm...that would be me! :)

Gift Wrapping

I'm an excellent gift wrapper! I love wrapping presents, and would much rather use pretty paper and fancy ribbon over gift bags any day! I would love to have the space to create a designated wrapping area in my house.

2. What would your last meal be?

Thanksgiving Dinner

By far, my favorite meal of the year is Thanksgiving. I look forward to it all year long, and have been known to hound my Mom to repeat the meal at Christmas.

3. Favorite teacher?

Celebrity makeup artist, Joanna Schlip

Without Joanna, I would not have a career as a makeup artist, period. She has taught me so much, not just about makeup, but about navigating my way through the entertainment biz. She's been an amazing teacher, mentor, and an even more amazing friend.

4. Least favorite chore to do?

Dishes

I could honestly say that I loathe most household chores, but dishes take the cake! I especially can't stand it when dishes have sat for any period of time. Gross!

5. Cupcakes or Macaroons?

Since I bought my new MacBook Pro, I've been scouring the internet looking for something fashionable to carry it in. I've pretty much decided that I want a sleeve type case as well as a larger tote to hold it in. Temporarily, I'm using my old Goldenbleu Jordan satchel.

It works, but it's really heavy with my laptop in it. Also, the straps aren't as long as I'd like making it a bit awkward to carry. I'm typically a Louis Vuitton girl for everyday bags, but I carry the Speedy style which won't accommodate my laptop. Since I own zero Monogram pieces, I thought this might be a good time to add the classic LV design to my collection. I'm thinking about getting this for my tote:
